Modest Clothing Resources

Since I know it’s tough to find them, I am going to try to keep a list here of resources I’ve run across.

Please note that not every item on every site will agree with everyone’s standards of “modest dress” – but I am trying to include as wide a variety of options as possible. I also have not personally done business with many of these businesses, and this listing should not be taken as any kind of guarantee or endorsement (although I have included my reviews, where relevant).

The types of businesses vary – some of these are “regular” corporate entities, some are family and SAHM businesses. Many (especially in the latter category) offer custom sewing to your specification, or at least basic adaptations to the stated specifications (such as skirt length).

Some of these are generically “Christian” (or even simply “Modest”!) oriented, others are labeled specifically as “Jewish,” “LDS,” “Catholic,” “Plain,” or even “Muslim” – or none of the above. I guess the point I want to stress here is that we can share resources and information wherever we find them, and enjoy some degree of support even from women whose beliefs may be very different from our own.

PLEASE NOTE: Let me reiterate that I am not promoting the adoption of any of these websites’ beliefs or standards – merely offering them as another option from which you may be able to pick and choose some items or information which will be helpful to you in your own walk.

If one of these links is no longer in business, or if you have a suggestion for a new one to add, please let me know by emailing me directly at modesty (at) asformyhouse (dot) com.

Dressing for His Glory – Also sport clothing and swimwear.
Tryphena B. does custom work at home.  Email her at 4lillambs (at) gmail
The Modest Poppy – also sport clothing and swimwear.
Half-Tee – This site itself is immodest, showing lots of midriffs, and poses that are less than demure.  But they offer a wide variety of layering pieces (half-tees!) for women and girls.
Skylark Clothing – new startup with a small selection.
Cleo Madison – new startup with a small selection.  Excellent “mission statement” of what types of clothes they will carry; follow through maybe less than perfect.

Froggie’s Swim Caps (also has an XL size for bigger heads or longer hair)

KatieMellas also has maternity skirts
Aqua Modesta (another fabulous Jewish site) – Also has swim headcoverings

Free to Cover on Etsy. Also does custom orders.
Garlands of Grace

Cover Your Hair – more of a mass-market store, I found that their headbands and such ran too small for me (the reason I don’t buy hair accessories at local chain retail stores).
Covered 4 Him
Covered With Style
Mayim Chayim Hand-crocheted coverings
Honor Your Head
My Headcoverings
Christian Coverings
Veils by Lily – lovely Mantillas
Joyce’s Coverings and Veils – Some great-looking (but simple) hairpins and clips, as well
Wrapunzel – Scarves, tichels, volumizers.  Jewish oriented.  Aside from the store, be sure to check out her great tutorials!
Liturgical Time – Etsy shop with mantilla, hanging veils, etc.

Add-on pockets
Sock Dreams – some of this store’s offerings and pages are a little racy, but they have a great selection of long socks.

While there are always going to be some modest patterns to be found among the “masses” in any pattern line, the ones listed here are intentionally offering modest selections.

Other websites that have lists of resource links.  Again, standards may vary.

The Cross Is All
Modest Clothing Directory
Although most of these are home businesses without any thought of such things, I would not be opposed to becoming an affiliate for a company that sold wholesome clothing. So the possibility exists, over time, that clicking through one of my links would earn me a small referral commission without any additional cost to you. In which case, I am very grateful.

  6. Hello!
My name is Laura Nickerson, and I’m from a large Christian family on Ontario, Canada. My parents have always taught us to dress modestly and to be considerate of others, and we love being able to find quality modest fashion! In fact, my sister and I have recently started a small online business selling modest dresses. I just came across this page, and I was wondering if you’d be able to add our business to the list? We only have a small selection of modest dresses at this time, but we are hoping to be able to diversify more in the future. Our business is called Skylark Clothing (
Thank you for you time and for your assistance in helping women dress modestly!

  7. we would love for you to add HAlftee layering Fashions ( we are based in Christian values of providing a less bulky option to help women get the perfect coverage they need while still being able to purchase many mainstream fashions

  8. Hello there! I came across your blog as I was looking for modest swimwear online. Thank you for the list, I’m sure it’ll be a great help! You seem to be making a distinction between “Christians” and “Catholics” in the text above. Just wanted to point out that Catholics are Christians. For hundreds of years they were the only referred to as Christians.

    God bless,

    • I seem to have worded it poorly there, and I apologize. I see the same implied slight applies to several other folks in that list! It’s already changed.

I did mean to imply a distinction between Catholics and Protestants, since some websites self-identify as “Catholic”, and my goal was actually to encourage women NOT to worry about such labels!
